Xiaohan Luo is a London-based artist whose practice explores perception, sensory experience, memory, and communication. Working across moving image, installation, printmaking, photography, sound, and painting, she is interested in how people navigate and interpret the world through observation, movement, and bodily awareness.
Drawing from her experience of deafness since early childhood, Xiaohan examines the ways meaning is constructed beyond spoken language. Her work considers how silence, spatial awareness, repetition, and attention contribute to emotional and sensory awareness, often inviting audiences to reflect on how they relate to space, memory, and the environments they inhabit.
She holds an MA in Print and an MRes in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, London. Through time-based media, installation, and visual art, her multidisciplinary practice explores sensory navigation, bodily awareness, and the ways people make sense of their surroundings through observation, movement, and environmental change. Recent projects have examined communication beyond sound, encouraging audiences to engage with space through attention, timing, and physical experience.
Alongside her studio practice, Xiaohan Luo undertakes research into art history and contemporary artistic practices, with writing and critical enquiry forming an important extension of her creative process. Grounded in lived experience yet reaching beyond autobiography, her work encourages audiences to reconsider how perception shapes their understanding of the world around them.
