Zhu Fuxin

Oil Painting

Zhu Fuxin is a Chinese oil painter, educator, and former Professor and Head of the Oil Painting Department at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Born in Jilin in 1938, he graduated from the Affiliated Middle School of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1959 and from the Oil Painting Department in 1964, where he later remained to teach. In 1986, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and carried out artistic research across Europe and Africa.

His practice is rooted in oil painting, material technique, and the dialogue between Chinese aesthetic sensibility and Western pictorial language. Through colour, composition, texture, and painterly structure, Zhu explores how personal temperament, cultural memory, and visual experience can be transformed into works with clarity, warmth, and poetic resonance.

Beyond his studio practice, Zhu has played an important role in art education and oil painting research in China. He helped introduce and organise research on French oil painting materials and techniques at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, contributing to the development of material-based oil painting practice and teaching. His works have been exhibited in China and internationally, including exhibitions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, and the United States.
