Zhang Dan

Contemporary Artist

Zhang Dan is a contemporary artist, educator, and researcher. He is a Level Three Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Director of the Experimental Art Department, a member of the Experimental Art Committee of the China Artists Association, a member of the Academic Committee of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and a council member of the Liaoning Artists Association. He has also been recognised as an Outstanding Postgraduate Supervisor in Liaoning Province.

His practice is rooted in contemporary art creation, experimental visual language, and teaching-led research. Working across image, object, narrative, and spatial thinking, Zhang explores how cultural memory, material experience, and social perception can be transformed through artistic experimentation. His work does not treat art as a fixed form, but as an open field in which symbols, memories, bodies, and environments can be reassembled into new structures of meaning.
